Crystal Hamby: On The Journey of Becoming An Herbalist & Putting Your Mojo In Your Medicine

This episode is especially for the herb students or those who want to be! Crystal Hamby has been teaching medicine making, materia medica and plant identification at Bastyr University for 16 years. She's a community herbalist and has lit the little green flame in the hearts of thousands of students.

Crystal is an absolute expert on herbal medicine making (she's working on a book on the topic!) and she shares what she considers to be the foundations of the craft. Crystal shares how medicine making connects us to the spark of our ancestors, to the reason we came to this planet, how every time we sit down and make medicine we are bringing in the wisdom of all those who have gone before.  It is a sacred act we are performing when we have this opportunity. As Crystal says, we should never forget to put our mojo into our medicine.

There's tons of pearls in here about how to begin your studies of herbalism, shared by two herbal science grads, teachers and community herbalists who put in their apprenticing time in the early years. We explore the power of apprenticeship in the learning process (as opposed to relying solely on what you read online and in books), the incredible and sacred opportunity to work in herbal apothecaries, and how time spent as a student is what eventually creates the conditions to step out as a community herbalist. Enjoy!
